Three one siders and a nail biter!

With Smith beating Brewster 6-1, Kauste beating Combe 7-0 and MacDonald beating Attinger 7-2, it was down to a low scoring battle between Jaap Van Dorp and Scott MacLeod to entertain the crowd.

With the score tied at 2-2 after 7 and with Van Dorp having the hammer, MacLeod had no option but to go for the steal. With skips stones to go, MacLeod was lying one on the outer edge of the 12, to one side, with a long guard about a foot from the centre line. Van Dorp had 4 stones, just short of the rings, on the opposite side to MacLeod’s counter. Scott took some time to decide whether to come round the Van Dorp stones, or come around his own long guard. He chose the latter, but was a touch heavy and sat back of tee. Jaap tried to follow him, but came up short of the house. Scott then tried to draw top four, behind Jaap’s short stone, with anything short being good. He was a little heavy again and not behind the cover sticking it right on the pin. This left Jaap a straight hit for the win, which he duly made!

So the semis line up like this:

Smith (SCO)                   v       Kauste (FIN)

Van Dorp (NED)            v       MacDonald (SCO)

Quarters begin in Edinburgh!

With sections A & B decided, all eyes were on C & D, for the last four spots.

Section C

Team Attinger topped the section, very closely followed by team Kauste. Both teams just dropping one game, with Kauste beating Attinger 6-4 in the group stage.

Section D

With MacDonald already through, it was a tight one to fill the last qualification spot, but it was Moray Combe’s Scottish rink who managed to make it through.

So the quarters line up like this:

Smith (SCO)       v       Brewster (SCO)

Combe (SCO)     v       Kauste (FIN)

Attinger (SUI)     v       MacDonald (SCO)

MacLeod (SCO) v       Van Dorp (NED)

Edinburgh quarter spots filling up fast!

The quarter final spots for groups A & B are decided, but how simple will sections C & D work out?

Section A

Tom Brewster’s rink is through, undefeated to tomorrow’s quarter finals, with Scott Macleod’s new rink only dropping one game to join them there.

Section B

Both Van Dorp and Smith drop one game each, but make it straight through to the quarters.

Section C

Attinger and Kauste are sitting top of their section, with one game to play, but losses from either one could open the door to Baumann or Shaw and it would come down to who beat who, or if necessary, the accumulated LSD's.

Section D

MacDonald has secured his place in tomorrow’s quarters, but the second spot could go to one of 3 teams, Combe, Eskilsson, or Stjerne. The accountants may have to be wheeled out for this one too.

Saturday night just got interesting!!!!!!!!!!!

Next Stop.. Edinburgh International 2015

The next stop for the Goldline Scottish Curling Tour is the Edinburgh International.  The tournament boasts a strong 24 team line up, Aku Kauste (Finland) returns to defend his 2014 crown but will face tough local and International competition. 

First games take place at 8.30am on Friday 6th November, be sure to go along to watch some of the best teams in European.
